I think the library is important to the community because: I believe our library is an amazing resource and truly one of our community's "hidden jewels." For young people particularly, a library offers almost unlimited access to books and can help develop a lifelong love of reading.

I was inspired to become a member of the board because: I can't think of a better way to volunteer and give back to my community. I hope I can help to raise awareness and make others as passionate about the library as I am.

My favorite way to use the library is: I enjoy coming to the library on Saturday morning with my kids to fill our basket with new books and a DVD for "movie night." I also love being able to place new books on hold and manage my checkouts online.

My favorite book is: Wow, this is a hard question for me to answer because I have so many to choose from. One of my favorite non-fiction authors is Daniel Pink and I really enjoyed his latest book, To Sell is Human.

Interests/Hobbies: I love to exercise, read non-fiction, drink craft beer, and hang out with my awesome family.

Education/Degrees: B.S. Industrial Engineering from Iowa State University, MBA from Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University.

Profession: Currently serving as a Project Manager at School District U-46 in Elgin after a long career in wireless telecommunications at Motorola and U.S. Cellular.

Family: Married for 16 years to Katrina Burmeister with two children, son Tory (8) and daughter Gabriella (3).
